Nop Cart Questions - need help quick

ok I have a few questions.

if I were to use the auth.net service to process my orders, after the customer has completed entering all their credit info, address info, etc. are they then taken to auth.net's website? or is it all taken care of in the backgroud?

like if I link it up with the code provided by NOP.? or are they taken to auth's site to enter more data? and where are my orders kept? how am I notified of an order. I was under the impression that they would be written to the *.CSV file, but since I am not using the CGI-BIN side of things how is this done? or do I still need to upload those files / directories (the CGI ones) to my web server?

basically I have the cart all set up, I just need some info on setting it up, and how Authorise.net deals with transactions. I am assuming that worldpay, and the other handle it the same way. ( all in the background)

yeah I have read through numerous posts here, and like you haven't found anything solid. too many contradictions in the posts for me to know for sure.
