Yet Another PayPal Question

I've looked through the forum but not being a coder as soon as you guys start speaking technical it all goes wrong!

I've set up the cart and it all works fine. Until I try and point it at PayPal! Absolutely no information is passed to it! It comes up in PayPal asking me to insert a product a price and update???? I've added a hidden field total and tried that and it works perfectly, so why isn't any of the information being sent? Stupid question but is it because I'm not using the .pl script? Anything like that? I'm lost please help!
