Newbie question on SSL

Postby milauskas » Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:44 pm

Hi,

Just wondering about SSL. If I install NOP cart and have a payment processor like authorize.net, are the transactions secure or do I need to get an SSL certificate for the shopping cart pages. If the user chooses an option e.g., from a pulldown menu and is then redirected to the payment gateway, isn't that part secure already? Just wondering what I need to do to implement everything.

Thanks!

As long as the credit card number is not entered on a form on your site, you don't have to worry about SSL. Most payment processors, including authorize.net, allow you to post the contents of the shopping cart together with some additional customer data to the payment processor. The payment processor then asks the customer for the credit card info.

Thanks very much. That's kind of what I thought. That makes things a lot easier for me!
