Order confirmation and new online order emails

I've done a quick search on the forum but not found anything relating to this problem. On my order confirmation and new order emails the sub total, total and shipping prices have � instead of the £ symbol, however, the price in the order summary does have the £ symbol. A quick Google suggests that this is something to do with the character set on the webpage although I have changes this in the head of the webpage and there is no difference. Any clues? I'm using the cgi-bin version of the shopping cart.

Hi,
It seems to be a problem generated when using Safari (I work on a Mac), if I use Firefox on a mac the emails are fine, likewise if I use a PC. With Safari the checkout page also shows incorrect '£' symbols. I'd be interested to know if there is a solution for people viewing my website using a Mac.
