Add a shipping calc by weight feature

I have been calculating the shipping costs by the number of items up until now but I have taken on a new line of products that have a wide range of weights and need top add a weigh consideration to the nopcart. Because I have customized the nopcart quite a bit to suit our needs I would like to find out how to add a weight multiplier some how. I know how to add
<input type=hidden name=WEIGHT value="2"> (for a 2 pound item for example)to the html form but am a bit confused as to how to pull it over and have it as part of the calculation for the shipping in the nopcart.js
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have attached my existing nopcart.js which works great otherwise.

Search the modification section for "shipping by weight and zone"
Stefko did the original code, but it has been modified for weight only and zone only as well.

You will find all kinds of ideas there!
