How about shipping by zone

Postby Jim Lane » Tue Dec 03, 2002 2:06 pm

OK here's what I'm thinking (toke toke)! All shippers work on a delivery charge by zone. Each zone has a different starting price for a 1 lb package that then increments by a certain penny amount as each pound is added. My average increase is .79 per pound over the starting pound for Airborne shipments.

Can we have a radio button that asks the buyer what zone they're in based on their zip code for delivery (they can get this information from another screen we'll build) or code could be written to determine this automaticaly. The zone button will determine the base price for shipping. Now all we need to do is code each item by how much that item will increase the package over the base price.

EXAMPLE:

Base price for someone living in zone four is $11.42
They buy a six pack of strawberries and that weighs 4 lbs.
The shipping costs on the berries will be coded on the page as (4 x .79) $3.16, add $3.16 to the base price of $11.42 and the total for shipping is $14.48

Base price for someone living in zone eight is $12.67 add $3.16 for the same pack of strawberries and the total for shipping is $15.83

This is right close to what I'm being charged for a 5 lb package going from zone two to zone four and zone eight respectively. All everyone needs to do is determine their base price (plug that in), determine the average penny increase per pound from your shipping cost, and then code each item by the weight increase x that cost.

I know for free we can't get the UPS live rate quote that's on your paid cart, but this would be the next best thing!

Since I did this for US Post Office Zones on my cart... I will say that the money adding and subtracting is not the hard part, its the zone determining code.. at least for Zip Code Zones from the post office.

My cart kind of does it... based on the zip code:

(cart wont apear unless sometings in it though, so add item and click the cart icon.) Server issues might cause you to need to refersh first visit... not sure why.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/draconiou ... dates.html if above dont work.

OK I tried to buy something from your site as a test to see your code but everytime I added an item, and the warning box came up and said it was there, I clicked the shopping cart and it said my cart was empty.

Can you send me the code to look at?

Maybe email me at lane5625@cox.net and attach the code so I can see what you did?

Shipping Code

Postby DiSpy » Sun Dec 08, 2002 12:57 am

I would like the code for this as well, could you (or someone) please post it here? ...also the code for your paypal total, the one that adds the appropriate amount to the total if a user decides to pay with paypal.

Even if the code is specific to your area/site, i will need to write my own shipping and paypal addons, and would appreciate it if I had some starting reference point, such as the already working code you use on your site.

THANK YOU!

Shipping by weight by state (or zone)

Postby tommy » Sun Mar 02, 2003 4:42 pm

I would like to see shipping by weight and state (or zone). Does anyone else need that issue resolved?

We ship items from 2 lbs to 500 lbs or more. A per lbs per state script would solve our shipping "shopping cart" troubles.

Also some items we sell are a service and we do not need to charge tax or shipping. Someone else wrote about that in another string. I will read up...

Any thoughts?
