Tax rate (help)

Postby El_Tel_78 » Wed Feb 05, 2003 5:36 pm

I'm having trouble setting the tax rate in my cart.

In the nopcart.js file the tax rate I set the rate at 0.175 (english VAT rate). The problem lies that the cart adds up to the nearest halfpenny, so therefore after so many products added my cart seems to have added extra pennies from somewhere.

Is there any way around this or am I stuck with it?

I actually thought of putting my VAT on the whole price in the products hidden fields and then dividing by the british tax rate of 17.5% because I want to let shoppers know how much tax is added to the product, but I need this done without the extra pennies appearing on the total price.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The cart rounds to the nearest penny, yes. Could you post an example with what the cart's calculations are, vs. what they should be? The rounding is based on USA convention. I can post a mod for your needs after seeing how the math 'should' work for your case.

Hi Scott,

I sent you an IM but I'm not sure if they aqre turned off so I'll post here anyway.

I think I have found a short term solution but I don't yet know how it will work with bulk products.

One of my products I want to set at £3.99 so I set the hidden field at £3.40. When I times this by the british tax rate of 17.5% ( 3.40*1.175) I get 3.995 which is the reason it rounds up to £4.00. I am going to set the hidden field at £3.395 which when times by 1.175 again adds to 3.989125, in turn rounding it to £3.99.

I only noticed this when I seen that it only rounded the price on certain products where the decimal is over 0.5 of the set price that I wanted.

Thanks for your quick reply anyway and I'll let you know how it works out.

Hi Scott, one more thing..

Are there any ready made mods to have the managecart.html page to look as follows :-

Product ----- qty = 10 ----- £7.99
Subtotal -------------------- £79.90
Postage --------------------- £2.00
_____________________________

Total ------------------------ £81.90

_____________________________

VAT Analysis @ 17.5%

Excluding VAT ------------- £68.00

VAT ------------------------ £11.90

This will then enable our company to print off an invoice of the product that we sell for future reference. It actually works in the same way that our fuel reciepts work, breaking down the VAT structure. If there is anything along those lines to input into the script then I would be greatful for your help.

Regarding the previous method of the half-pennies appearing, it didn't work. No wonder the taxman is so hated.

Thanks again,

Terry

Not that I am aware of... but someone else may chime in for that mod.
