Can someone test this?

Postby ambie » Tue Mar 18, 2003 1:57 pm

We just added the nopcart shopping cart to our site in place of our old one. Everything seems to be working great, I've tested it from 2 different computer systems and haven't had any problems.

However, we just received an email from a customer that said he tried ordering through our website but nothing seems to end up in his shopping cart when he goes to pay.

The link is http://www.talboturnings.com/index3.html

Click on the "Our Bats" link on the left hand column and it will take you to the catalog.

Thank-you

I don't see...

I don't see anything wrong with the code as far as I can tell, but I experienced the same problem.

I tried to place an order and the product was not making it to the cart at all.

When I use your 'frames' site is when it fails. If I select "Our Bats" by right clicking on it and opening it in a new window, that method works.

My guess is that somewhere, the pages on the secure site and the managecart page I am looking at is NOT on the same server.

I put the old cart back up in the time being till I can figure out how to get it to work within the frames....

Thanks so much for taking the time to test that for me though!

In frames...

It's not hard to work within frames if you keep one thing in mind.

You make a "jump" to your secure server. There is no reason that all of your pages, including the frames, can be served behind the SSL layer. That way, you won't wind up with a lost cookie that can't send the data back to the browser.

That would also include the managecart and checkout pages.

Any idea as to why everything's okay on some systems, but not others? I'm using IE (if that makes a difference) I haven't had any problems, and I had a customer send through an order on the new cart (before I switched back to our old cart) that went through fine. On the other hand, I had emails from customers saying they couldnt add anything to the cart...
I set up a test site at http://www.talboturnings.com/testingcart.html

It's hard to find out what's wrong when everything is right on my computer :(

Thanks,

site tested for ambie

Postby DRAGFIRE » Thu Mar 20, 2003 6:05 pm

I made a selection of a bat, filled in all options, and submitted. Your message box flew up saying I had added an order to the cart and stated the bat part number, etc.

I then proceeded to checkout. Your cart remains empty.

This is Windows 2000, IE 6.0 with service pak 1 running.

you are calling a page managecart.html.

My own page is managecart.htm - - - - - no "l" on the end

for ambie - shopping cart in frames

Postby DRAGFIRE » Thu Mar 20, 2003 6:13 pm

Look around on this forum for a post about using frames. I think your issue has been discussed before with a solution to it. I got the exact same results that the other tester got

Question... the cart will work when opened from a new window, just not in the frames, right? I'm thinking about having the shopping cart simply open in a new window, that way the secure lock displays as well. I saw in another post where someone had used this solution, and it seems like it would work....

Ambie,

That sounds like it has a possibility of working. I try to stay away from frames as much as possible to keep the browsing experience to the lowest common denominator, myself.

But give it a try in a new window. I myself have my cart simply up behind
an aol screen name so do not have support to perl, cgi-bin, or such, but I get by.
