PHP/MYSQL -- Cart linked to MYSQL database

Ok here is the problem. I'm running a XP Home edition box, with apache2, perl, php (latest), mysql installed.

The plan is to have a page where the customer will enter the Product_ID and when they press ENTER, TAB or click in next field the "page" will contact the database and "fill in the blanks" to where the customer will just have to click on add to cart.

I don't know much about PHP and even less bout SQL any help please.

Have tried to mail fredrik but the email is not valid anymore. 2 years old.
